Wound Environment: Basic Understanding and New Science

Moderator/Speaker: Ardeshir Bayat, MB, BS, PhD
Speaker: Susan W. Volk, VMD, PhD, DACVS
The wound environment can play a big role in determining the proper course of care for a patient. For example, moist and wet wound environments yield to faster healing times with less inflammation and discomfort for patients compared to dry environments. Furthermore, optimization of the wound environment can achieve cellular reprogramming, promoting a shift from a non-healing to a healing wound. This session will explore the basics of identifying the ideal environment for wound healing and the new scientific developments around the mechanisms by which this can be accomplished, all of which are impacting how clinicians are ensuring that their patients experience optimal wound healing.
