    Speakers

James McGuire, DPM, PT, Lped, FAPWHc

    ABSTRACT

Diabetic foot infection (DFI) is the most common complication of diabetes mellitus leading to hospitalization and is the most frequent cause of nontraumatic lower extremity amputation.  DFIs are diagnosed clinically based on the presence of at least two classic findings and treatment is based on the extent and severity of the infection and comorbid conditions.  This session will discuss the diagnosis of diabetic foot infection and treatment approaches with oral antibiotics, wound care, and off-loading.
