Innovation in Skin and Wound Treatment: Microscale Solutions for Macroscale Wounds

    Course Description

Moderator: Robert S. Kirsner, MD, PhD
    Speaker: R. Rox Anderson, MD

There appear to be three fundamentally different pathways by which new tissue can be formed – organogenesis, tissue remodeling, and scar tissue formation.  Large-scale wounds almost always heal by scar formation.  In contrast, many cutaneous laser treatments produce substantial micro-scale wounds that heal rapidly, without scarring. Is it somehow possible to make a large wound heal primarily by remodeling, rather than by replacement with scar tissue? This exciting and informative session will explore several emerging strategies for better wound healing through the use of laser innovations.
