Wound Measurement: Documentation and Beyond
Course Description
Moderator/Speaker: Kathryn Davis, PhD
Speaker: Paul Kim, DPM, MS
Unlike most disciplines in healthcare, wound care occurs at the surface of the body, allowing the patient, their family, and the entire team providing care to view the wound both as it develops and as it progresses through the healing process. Accurate and consistent quality photography permits everyone to observe this process objectively. In addition, digital images and
planimetry software is now available to provide accurate and reproducible surface area measurements that can aid in collaborative care between team members while providing illustrative material for education and data for research. This session will present an overview of the legal issues related to wound photography, and review the techniques of clinical wound photography
as well as the characteristics of an ideal wound photograph. We will also compare some of the wound photography software and hardware currently available for use in the clinical setting.
