Atypically Speaking…
Course Description
Moderator/Speaker: Hollie Mangrum, PT, DPT, CWS
Many clinicians are experts in the diagnoses commonly seen in wound care. How many wounds are misdiagnosed or undiagnosed because they look like a common chronic ulcer? How many wounds could have been healed quicker if they had been diagnosed correctly in the first weeks of treatment? This session will interactively compare common ulcers with atypical
wounds such as Pyoderma Gangrenosum, Sickle Cell Disease, Necrobiosis Lipoidica Diabeticorum, and Martorell’s Ulcer. We will review the signs and symptoms of the atypical wounds, how to diagnose, and how to treat. Clinicians will leave this session better equipped to recognize these atypical wounds and intervene quickly, which will improve clinical outcomes for their patients.
