Recently the clinical effectiveness of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers has been questioned. HBOT is clinically ineffective when patients are treated who cannot be helped (futile care), when patients are treated who would heal without it (unnecessary care), and when patients are given more treatments than necessary (wasted care). It is also ineffective when proper adjunctive therapies such as off-loading and vascular screening are not provided. This session will review how HBOT can be delivered in an effective way when relatively simple protocols are followed.
