Medical Adhesive-Related Skin Injury
Course Description
Moderator/Speaker: Laurie McNichol, MSN, RN, GNP, CWOCN
Medical Adhesive-Related Skin Injury (MARSI) often occurs through improper application or removal of medical adhesives, causing pain, compromised skin integrity and increased risk of infection. According to the Consensus Statement for the Assessment, Prevention and Treatment of Adhesive Skin Injuries, the care of the skin, including protection against MARSI is a
basic requirement for patient care. Healthcare providers are in the front line of medical adhesive safety, however, little guidance exists regarding appropriate selection and proper use of adhesive products. This session will identify key assessment points needed to accurately differentiate MARSI from related causes of skin injuries and outline strategies for the prevention of MARSI.
