Pressure Ulcer or Moisture-Associated Skin Damage (MASD): Which is it?

    Course Description

Moderator/Speaker: Dorothy Doughty, MN, RN, FNP, CWOCN, FAAN

Both pressure and moisture can result in inflammation and erosion of the skin. Research suggests that nurses and physicians often times have difficulty distinguishing moisture-associated skin damage (MASD) from pressure ulcers. It is critical to differentiate the type of skin damage, as it will dictate treatment regimens. So how does a health care provider make the
appropriate call as to the primary etiology particularly when located at the gluteal cleft, on the buttocks or sacral area? This session will identify differentiating characteristics of MASD injuries vs. pressure ulcers and describe strategies for managing MASD.
